Downtown Lafayette

What is the Student Arts Expo?

The Student Arts Expo is an annual event designed to increase public knowledge and appreciation of the arts by and for the youth of the community.

Expo is a joint effort of the Acadiana Center for the Arts and Lafayette Parish School System, with support from Downtown Lafayette.

Who Can Participate?

The arts are a powerful teaching tool, and we value and recognize the many ways that you might be using the arts in your classroom. We host exhibits from art classes, performances of all genres, as well as the integration of the arts into everyday teaching. Think of the teachers, the students and the events that shape your school’s creativity, and showcase those accomplishments at the Student Arts Expo!

How Can We Participate?

To participate in the Student Arts Expo events, teachers should fill out the School Participation Form and submit it to by April 11, 2018, in order to be matched with an appropriate site.

The Event

Opening Ceremony

Beginning at 12:00pm an opening ceremony at the Acadiana Center for the Arts will launch the Student Arts Expo, after which LPSS student artwork and performances can be viewed in downtown venues. We will send you copies of the program including all events and a map of downtown Lafayette, so that you can send info home to your students before Expo.

Student Artist Market

The Student Artist Market provides an opportunity for student artists to become entrepreneurs by selling their artwork! Learn about pricing, setup and what sells from a practiced artist.

Art Parade

Help us kick off the Student Arts Expo with the Art Parade! We invite you to put together a group of students and represent your school as we march through the streets to showcase the arts in our community! We will meet at 11:45am at the Acadiana Center for the Arts to gather.

Art In Action

This year we will be celebrating our students "Art in Action." Each school may register one student to participate in creating an original piece of art LIVE at the Student Arts Expo. Local artists will judge the work created by students in the categories of elementary, middle, and high school. Completed art will be donated to a silent auction to benefit Arts in Education. Each student will receive 20% of the proceeds.

Topics will include Arts Integration, Teaching Artist development, professional development in the arts for teachers and teaching artists, Talented Arts program, and arts and schools partnerships.

For questions or to RSVP:

Facilitated by Jennifer Ritter Guidry, Programming and Special Projects, Center for Louisiana Studies, University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Student Arts Expo is a great opportunity for your students to give back to their community! We’re looking for students who are interested in being a bigger part of this great event! Some examples of ways to get involved:

  • Curators (to assist in hanging some of the exhibits)
  • Lead hands-on activities for the public (great for art clubs!)
  • Assisting the public in finding their way around the event
